This book was created in conjunction with an exhibition and project by Xapiri Ground, in co-creation with artist Davis Torres and the Shipetiari Native Community, realized over the course of two years beginning in May of 2023. The aim was to create a visual representation of traditional Matsigenka iconography and storytelling through a collaborative mural project, which would inspire a revival of the sharing of these stories between Matsigenka elders and young people, and foster an appreciation of the community among visitors. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The featured images are creative interpretations by the artist Davis Torres of Xapiri Ground<\/a> (Cusco, Peru), which link the ancestral stories of the Matsigenka people with their natural and graphic origins. <\/p>\n<\/div>
